Suggested fabrics: You will get a different look depending on the type of fabric you select. A drapey rayon or silk will give it a more elegant dressy look, while a more sturdy fabric like a linen will give you a structured everyday dress. We encourage you to be creative and daring with fabric! It would look amazing in a cotton voile, rayon challis, or chiffon.

Oh my word, I’m so glad that I tried this pattern again. I made my first WilderGown dress 3 years ago in a pink cotton gingham and I wasn’t mad on the finished dress. It felt voluminous and I thought I looked quite shapeless in it (tbh I am).. This version is the polar opposite, luxurious, drapey and feels quite decadent. I bought this ink blue bamboo silk from Raystitch in Islington 2 years ago intending to make a WilderGown top but just hadn’t got around to it. A big birthday and a newly sewn pair of Mitchell trousers motivated me to crack on with it. This time I made the smallest size and the only alteration I made was to shorten the neck keyhole to avoid gaping. I’m happy with the fit and the silk changes the effect of the pattern entirely. A few words on sewing with silk…take it slowly. I used decorators tape to hold the fabric in place whilst I cut the top out using a rotary cutter. I cut out on the flat using weights rather than pins. Use a size 70 needle and shorten the stitch length. Be careful when snipping threads…I managed to nick the front piece but fortunately I had enough spare to recut and resew.

Wilder Gown Sleeveless Hack

We hacked the wilder gown to make a stunning sleeveless dress and we were so happy with how it came out and it was also really simple to do! We have done a step by step guide on how to do it on our blog, we love how versatile this pattern is! ❤️

Lovely summer dress

The pattern was really easy to follow with no zips or buttons to make it complicated. A good pattern when your sew-jo is low! For some reason I found the sleeves tricky to attach but that’s probably a reflection on my skill rather than the dress itself.

Just love it! - Wilder Gown

Here’s my version of this beautiful Wilder gown dress and I’m in love.

I made the smallest size and I took 2.5cm off the length of each panels.

I originally finished the sleeves as per the pattern but I did not like them, they were too wide and shapeless on me so I created a little cuff to give them some shape.
I much prefer it and I’ve been wearing loads in the summer.
The fabric is some beautifully soft viscose and it works perfectly for the dress, it makes so light and floaty.

First of many - Wilder Gown

As a relatively inexperienced sewist, I found the process of sewing and constructing this pattern very rewarding, and quite addictive! I've got plans for lots more versions. I have broad shoulders so next time I will make an adjustment for this, but my first version with no adjustments is perfectly wearable. I'm currently 7 months pregnant and made my usual size - I think it will see me through the pregnancy and hopefully after, perhaps with a belt
