Note: The 0-16 and 12-32 size ranges were developed separately. The 0-16 range differs from the 12-32 range in the following ways: the bust darts are slightly higher, there is less ease at the waist and hip, the waist is slightly lower, the front length is slightly shorter, and in some cases the side seams are slightly straighter.

A no-gape shirt with options!

If you have curves, and however you like to style yours, you’ll know how great it is to have a gape-free shirt pattern you can rely on - especially when it comes with options.
I made classic Vernon (view A) with its slightly full sleeves gathered into narrow buttoned cuffs…and the larger collar borrowed from view B. After using the Cashmerette Size Calculator and checking the final garment measurements, I made a size 16 E/F using the full bicep sleeve. The only modification I made was my usual small high round back adjustment which keeps the back hanging nicely and stops me feeling as if collars are choking me.
Although the pattern is graded Intermediate, I found the lovely construction details to be clearly explained and a pleasure to sew up - so if you’re a confident beginner looking to improve your skills, I’d recommend this pattern. I’ve only sewn a two-part collar a few times before and found this one came together easily. And whilst not a quick make, there’s something so satisfying about shirt sewing and I’m sure I’ll be coming back to this pattern.
Fabric is Robert Kaufman Santa Barbara tencel/cotton chambray purchased from Minerva. It has a lovely drape and is delightful to wear. And it was a lovely sew once I realised it needed a microtex needle for the nicest stitch.
As a long-time fan of Cashmerette, I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of this pattern to sew up and post in exchange for a generous one-year subscription to the new Cashmerette Club at the All Access level - which I’m excited about. No obligation to say nice things and of course opinions, time and fabric are my own.
Thanks for reading ?

A game changer for curvy sewists!

I don't say that this is a game changer lightly. I had long ago shelved wearing shirts as the fit has never worked for me, and I either have a gape that needs to be intricately pinned together or, go up a size or two and end up with a look that is not good!

Then, along came the Vernon. I love that it doesn't have princess seams as they are not for me. I made an 18GH and the fit is so good right off the block. I made one in a cotton poplin, but my favourite make is in a rather unfreindly to sew velvet burn out lace.. but now I have a new going out look which I LOVE!!

I have made 2 of these now and I have detailed more thoughts on the pattern in a bog post which you can read here - Cashmerette Vernon Shirt Pattern Review
