Not a total success

This is a raglan sleeved knit top with neck/collar variations.

I decided to make two of these tops as an experiment. I want to make a black polo neck top in a cotton jersey but as I've had a few fails recently I wanted to try out this pattern to make a garment that wouldn't matter too much if it didn't go to plan. So, I bought two lengths of pointelle cotton, one in cream and one in  light grey, and my plan was to wear them either as an extra layer under a sweatshirt or as pyjama tops. The other factor was that I wanted to try out my new coverstitch machine on the hems.

In RTW i would normally wear a 12 or 14 so going by the pattern measurements I decided on a 14. The cutting out and instructions were easy to follow but because of my previous fails I decided to overlock the sleeve and side seams and then try it on before Iwent any further. It was enormous! So I took it in by 1cm each side (therefore reducing the circumference by 4cm) and it was still a little on the big side. I also found the sleeves and the body to be very long. I left the body length as I decided that would be cosy but I had to cut off several centimetres off the sleeves. According to their chart my sleeve length should be 60 cm but my actual measurement is 52cm.  I'm 5'3", so not very tall but not mega short either.

Would I use this pattern again? Probably not, unless i want to use it as a pyjama top.
