Suggested fabrics: Light- to medium-weight woven fabrics, such as linen, double gauze, chambray, cotton lawn, viscose (rayon). If you’re a confident stitcher, try a sandwashed silk or crêpe de chine.
Fabric requirements:
150 cm (60") wide fabric: Top, 1.1 - 1.8 m (1 1/4 - 2 yd) // Dress, 1.4 - 2.4 m (1 5/8 - 2 5/8 yd).
115 cm (45") wide fabric: Top, 1.8 - 2.2 m (2 - 2 1/2 yd) // Dress, 2.4 - 2.8 m (2 5/8 - 3 1/8 yd).
Sizing: UK 6 – 34. Please check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Matching thread; 0.4 m (1/2 yd) interfacing (similar weight to your fabric) // For button loop version: one 12-18 mm (1/2"-3/4") button and elasticated hairband.

I know Tilly and the Buttons patterns are much loved but I had never really been drawn to them until I was gifted the Stevie.
It was a very pleasant sew and I was delighted that there were no modifications needed - my short torso means I often have to add length.
I will wear this (and future Stevies) with the ties at the front. This turned out to be a winner and I will look at these patterns with a different perspective in future.

The Stevie dress is a simple shift dress with grown on sleeves, round neck and turned-up cuffs. It comes in two variations to close at the neck – button loop or ties and also two length variations – dress or top. This pattern is super easy and quick to make as it has no darts or fiddly zips. I made mine with a patch pocket and a rounded hem with small splits on each side. Based upon the size guide I initially made the Stevie in a size 3. However I’m learning that Tilly and the Buttons patterns come with a lot of ease. Especially with the loose fit already, realistically I’m more a size 2. With this in mind I did end up altering the fit and took it in at the side seams. Read my full blog here

I’ve made 2 versions of the top now and I love it. It’s an easy sew but with details to make it interesting. I made one version in a think crepe which gave it more structure and this viscose makes a more floaty top. I’ve worn in with smart trousers to work and under a jacket but it also works with jeans. I used the button closure on my first top and the second I finished it with a hock and eye. I’m going to try a colour blocked version next to use some of cuts up.

Another lovely pattern from Tilly and the Buttons - but I nearly passed this one by. I wasn't at all sure it would suit my frame, and it wasn't until I saw the reviews from others (and people at the Sewing Weekender wearing them) that I changed my mind. I think it'd be important to find the right fabric to really love this dress though. Fortunately I'd been gifted this amazing teal Japanese print, with a procession of ladies along one edge and I love the way it works with the pattern. Without any darts to interrupt the pattern, the simple design works really well with an interesting print - but I'd suggest a soft, slightly drapey fabric works well to keep the shape flattering.
I'd definitely say this pattern would suit any level of experience, as the instructions are very clear with photos and hints to take you through the different stages. There are no complicated closings (buttons, zips etc). If you're tempted for a quick summer make now the sun has made an appearance, this is a great option.

I love the yoke and tie detail on the back and it’s really easy to sew – perfect for a beginner – I whizzed this up in a couple of hours last night! I made a size 4, graded to a 2 at the waist, and back out to a 3 from the hips down. It fits a treat and doesn’t look too bulky on me as is, but I do like to add a belt for waist definition.
