Buy the 152 Scottish Kilts and Men's Jacket and Vest sewing pattern from Folkwear. The romance of the Scottish Highlands is alive and well in this authentic men's kilt, women's kilt skirt, and men's Prince Charlie jacket and vest, traditionally worn with a kilt on formal occasions.

Complete instructions are provided for measuring, pleating, and constructing the kilt and kilt skirt, and pattern pieces and instructions are provided for the men's jacket and vest. To complete the ensemble, knitting instructions are also included for traditional Argyle socks and a lovely women's vest featuring a lacy Scottish horseshoe design.

Note: Pattern pieces are provided for the men's jacket and vest only. No pattern pieces are needed for the kilt and kilt skirt.

Suggested fabrics:

Kilt: Medium-weight worsted twill tartan wool (about 13 oz. is ideal for the men's kilt, 11 oz. for the women's kilt skirt).

Kilt lining: Finely woven sturdy cotton.

Jacket and Vest: Suit-quality medium-weight wool or blend. Jacket lapels should be heavyweight silk (peau de soie or similar quality).

Jacket and Vest lining: Medium-weight lining fabric.

Fabric requirements: Yardages given are for fabrics with or without nap, pile, or one-way design.

Kilt: Single-width tartan (30"/76 cm wide): 8 yd (7.32 m) // Double-width tartan (60"/1.52 m wide): 4 yd (3.66 m).

Kilt skirt (up to 24"/61 cm long, longer skirts may require more fabric): Single-width tartan (30"/76 cm wide): 4 yd (3.66 m) // Double-width tartan (60"/1.52 m wide): 2 yd (1.83 m).

Kilt lining: 45" (115 cm) wide fabric: 1 yd (0.95 m).

Jacket: 45" (115 cm) wide fabric: 2 - 2 5/8 yd (1.83 - 2.4 m) // 60" (150 cm) wide fabric: 1 1/2 - 2 yd (1.38 - 1.83 m).

Jacket lining: 45" (115 cm) wide fabric: 1 5/8 - 2 3/8 yd (1.45 - 2.18 m).

Vest: 45" (115 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 - 7/8 yd (0.69 - 0.8 m) // 60" (150 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 yd (0.69 m).

Vest lining: 45" (115 cm) wide fabric: 1 3/8 - 1 7/8 yd (1.26 - 1.72 m).

Sizing: Kilt and Kilt skirt: All sizes (can be made to any size and length) // Jacket and Vest: Men's 36 - 48. Please check the size chart.

Notions: 

Kilt: Thread; 1 yd (0.95 m) hair canvas or heavy linen interfacing; two 5 1/2" x 1 1/8" (14 cm x 29 mm) leather belt tabs; two corresponding buckles.

Kilt skirt: Thread; waistband interfacing (1 1/2 times waist size plus seam allowances); one 5 1/2" x 1 1/8" (14 cm x 29 mm) leather belt tab and corresponding buckle; one 3/4" (19 mm) button or Velcro closure for inside waistband.

Jacket: Thread; 1 yd (0.95 m) woven or weft-insertion fusible suiting interfacing; 1 1/2 yd (1.38 m) of 3/8" (9.5 mm) wide stay tape; 1 pair standard 1/2" (13 mm) thick shoulder pads (not pre-covered); twenty 3/4" (19 mm) square metal buttons.

Vest: Thread; 3/4 yd (69 cm) woven or weft-insertion fusible suiting interfacing; three 5/8" (16 mm) square metal buttons; one standard vest belt buckle.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; print-at-home pattern (45 pages); 36″ wide copy shop pattern; A0 copy shop pattern (3 pages); knitting instructions for the Argyle socks and women's vest. Note: Pattern pieces are provided for the men's jacket and vest only. No pattern pieces are needed for the kilt and kilt skirt.
