TOP INDIE CULOTTE SEWING PATTERNS FOR SUMMER

TOP INDIE CULOTTE SEWING PATTERNS FOR SUMMER
Kate Underdown

Summer is coming and we can’t wait for warmer weather and the opportunity to show off our handmade wardrobe. This week on the blog we are sharing our favourite culotte sewing patterns from indie designers. Pair with a cami top or striped t-shirt and you will be ready for a trip to the beach or stroll on a city break. It’s often easier to sew culottes than formal trousers, as the fit is more relaxed. We’ve got lots of patterns for you to choose from to get holiday ready this year!

New culotte sewing pattern releases this Spring

Bolt Culottes – Make With Mandi

The Bolt Culottes feature an elasticated back waistband, front pleats and trouser hand pockets. These culottes are extremely comfortable and can be adapted in many ways to create many different gorgeous pieces. This pattern has been designed for mid-weight woven fabrics including cottons, linens, and chambrays.

Sizing: UK 6 – 26. Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Tyra Trousers – Ploen Patterns

The Tyra Trousers are the perfect addition to your wardrobe. This pattern has two versions – culottes and palazzo pants – so you can create two different looks! Make with light to medium weight wovens such as viscose, Tencel, polyester, crepe and other fabrics with good drape.

Sizing: EU 32 – 54 (approx. UK 6 – 26) Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Bea Culottes – Fibre Mood

As featured at the top of this blog post these wide-leg culottes are a gorgeous must have! How about making them in a check? Or are you after a more edgy look? Bea is a straightforward pattern with buttons and snap closures, no fussing with zips. What else? Bea has two pleats at the front of each leg, darts in the back, and hidden side seam pockets. Not too wild about mid-length trousers? Lengthening them is a piece of cake. Bea looks great with a pair of high boots!

Sizing: EU 32 – 58 / US 0 – 26 (approx. UK 6 – 26/28). Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

All time sewing community favourites

Winslow Culottes – Helen’s Closet

The Winslow Culottes are wide-legged pants designed for ultimate comfort and style. This pattern can be made at any length, from shorts to full-length palazzo pants! The design features inseam pockets, an invisible zipper, a waistband, and inverted box pleats. Make midi-length culottes in Tencel twill for a chic, modern look, shorts in cotton lawn for active adventures, or pants in rayon challis for luxurious weekend wear.

Sizing: 0 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 30). Format: PDF or PDF + copy shop.

Bastion Culottes – Jennifer Lauren Handmade

The Bastion Culottes combine everything we love about 1940s sailor pants, 1930s beach pyjamas and the modern A-line skirt. Bastion features a sailor-style front button opening with deep, roomy pockets cleverly integrated into the waistline. Gently fitted at the natural waist, the legs drape effortlessly down over the hips in a breezy flared silhouette. With two length options — falling to mid-calf or above the knee — you can style your culottes with fitted knit tops or loose button-up blouses tucked in or tied at the waist. Throw a cropped cardigan over the top for cooler climes.

Sizing: UK 6 – 24. Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Girl Friday Culottes – Liesl and Co.

You’ll love the versatility of these wide, pleated culottes. Dressy enough to wear to work as a full skirt yet comfy enough for a day of running errands in town, these flattering pants can even be worn for more recreational activities like biking and hiking. Featuring front and back inverted box pleats, plus front pleats and back darts, these culottes aren’t short on style. They are designed to be midi-length but can be lengthened or shortened as desired. They also include a button or hook and eye at the waistband, hidden side pockets, and a side zipper. But relax, these impressive details are a cinch to sew.

Sizing: US 0 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 20) Format: PDF.

Perfect culottes for beginners

Ninni Culottes – Named

The Ninni Culottes are a pair of delightfully simple elastic-waist pants! The pants have a generous amount of ease and come with handy side pockets.

Lili Culottes – Tessa Roosa

The Lili Culottes are wide-legged, midi length trousers with a high waist and centre back invisible zipper. Choose a light to medium weight woven fabric with beautiful drape such as tencel, cupro, linen, double gauze, poplin, lawn or rayon. Avoid stiff and heavy fabrics.

Sizing: EU 32 – 52 (approx. UK 6 – 22/24) Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Have big pockets

Hannah Culottes – Pattern Union

The Hannah Culottes are wide-leg trousers that feature a self-faced high waist with an optional button detail on the front pleat, and a centre back zip. The cut-away pockets cleverly flatten the tummy. Style options include midi and shorts length. There are three body types to choose from to ensure a good fit: Even Triangle, High Triangle or Low Triangle.

Sizing: UK 6 – 26. Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Max Trousers – Lenaline Patterns

Max is a pair of extra-wide, high-waisted trousers. There are folds at the front waist and pockets at the sides and back. They close with a zipper and hook and bar at the front. Choose from three different lengths: trousers, culottes or shorts.

Sizing: EU 36 – 48 (approx. UK 8 – 18). Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Skirt illusion

Miyu Trousers – Fibre Mood

Miyu is a wide, asymmetrical divided skirt with elegant pleats, a broad, belted waistband and snap closure. Lengthen or take in these trousers to turn them into maxi pants or culottes. Use a fabric with a fluid drape, such as crepe, fine knit or viscose.  Alternative go for a stiffer fabric, such as denim or cotton.

Sizing: EU 32 – 50 (approx. UK 6 – 20). Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Eye-catching details

Mirage Trousers and Culottes – Camimade

Mirage is a wrap trousers pattern. It ties at the front and at the back and features two different styles depending on which side is tied first. Cut at the ankle or longer to wear with heels, these trousers are relaxed yet stylish. The wide legs provide high freedom of movement and comfort. While covering the legs, the overlapping panels allow a lot of breathability, especially welcome during hot days.

Sizing: A – H (approx. UK 6 – 20). Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Gobi Culottes – Itch to Stitch

The Gobi Culottes are unique and a lovely addition to your wardrobe. Made to look like a skirt, but with the convenience of pants, the Gobi has a contour waistband that sits high at your natural waist. Features include front pleats with topstitching, slanted front pockets, and back seams for shaping. The buttoned fly front adds interest, and you can also lengthen the legs to create a longer pair for the fall!

Sizing: US 00 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 22) Format: PDF or PDF + printed copy shop
