THE TOP 10 INDIE SEWING PATTERNS OF 2021

Do you ever wonder which are the most popular indie sewing patterns? We often get which ones you guys love the most.  So we thought we’d share the most popular sewing patterns for 2021. We’d love to know if you’ve made any of these patterns or own a few of them? Maybe some of you have sewn all 10!?

The Ogden Cam from True Bias: 

 

This classic shape is timeless and it also uses just over a metre of fabric making it a fantastic stash buster. The pattern features fine straps and it’s sleek clean finish around the neckline is thanks to a facing. The fit on this pattern is great as it flares slightly from the bust. Women with bigger bust might want to add a small bust dart. It’s a great layering piece meaning you’re going to be wearing this all year round. It’s also had a recent size expansion meaning even more of you can make it – hurrah!

The Heyday Dungarees from Waves and Wild: 

 

The Heyday dungarees are such a fantastic pattern. They are perfect if you are a beginner or for more the more advanced, a lovely simple sew! The pattern features a seam down the centre front patch pockets on the legs and bib and there are multiple ways you can add a tie to the straps. Now you just have to pick your fabric!

The Sagebrush Top from Friday Pattern Company:

  

The Sagebrush top was one of the first indie sewing patterns to embrace the statement sleeve and you guys haven’t looked back! The construction is relatively simple with a seam across the chest and an optional ruffle and a tie detail at the back. The sleeves are where it’s all going on with short puff sleeves that gather into a delicate cuff.

The Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory Patterns:

  

Hands up if you’ve made a Zadie Jumpsuit? Many of you will have made it, have one cut out ready to go or are planning your next one! So what makes this pattern so special? Tara who designs the patterns has been working as a pattern cutter within the fashion industry for well over a decade and knows her stuff. Her patterns are graded every three sizes, rather than the traditional one grade fits all, that most companies do. What this means is the fit from the smaller to the larger sizes is fantastic and the proof is in the pudding. The pattern features a wrap style jumpsuit with loose legs and an option to add longer sleeves making it a great option for winter too!

The Marlo Cardigan from True Bias: 

 

The Marlo jumper launched with a bang and loads of you guys loved it instantly  – ourselves included. The cropped variation of this pattern is one that has stolen peoples hearts. It looks fantastic worn with dresses of perhaps the Zadie Jumpsuit?! The pattern is cut to be oversized with a dropped shoulder and wide button band. It’s a classic shape and one that will never go out of style.

The Kielo wrap dress from Named Clothing:

 

The Kielo wrap dress from Named Clothing is probably to oldest of the patterns featured – an old but a goody!! The pattern is interesting, with two large front and back pieces and long ties that make up this pattern. Simply wrap the ties around you and you’re done. This pattern is designed to be made in jersey but it has also been made many many times in woven fabrics and works just as well! It’s simple construction and dramatic shape, makes it a firm favourite with you all. The recent update that has a new jumpsuit option has been really popular too.

The Block Tee from Paper Theory Patterns: 

 

The Block tee is such a super simple pattern. The interesting seam lines are the detail that really makes this pattern special, and perfect if you like a bit of colour blocking. The shape of the seam lines mean that the sleeves are grown on. The lovely loose sleeves make this pattern a joy to wear. This is also the pattern with the fewest number of pattern pieces, can you believe it only has four?!

The Wilder Gown from Friday Pattern Company: 

 

Ahh the Wilder gown, this beauty is actually a relatively simple sew and it doesn’t have any fastenings. Winner! The pattern features raglan sleeves that are much easier to insert, a sewn channel at the neckline with a tie that creates the ruffle. There are two variation for the skirt panels, so you can choose between one or two tiers of gathering. There is also a blouse variation too, so this really is a versatile pattern.

The Sicily Slip Dress from Masin: 

  

For those of you looking for something simple to sew with a bit of a challenge then the Sicily slip dress might be for you. This beautiful simple shape is cut on the bias, and needs a fabric with some drape. There are two variations for this pattern and you can choose between a spaghetti strap and a thick strap and there are two length options. Don’t forget to top up on pins for this project!

The Heather Blazer from The Friday Pattern Company: 

  

The Heather Blazer is the perfect relaxed fit jacket pattern and it’s a relatively simple sew. Hurrah! The pattern is cut on the loose side with a single button and a patch pockets on the front. The cut of is a little longer and sits mid hip length, which is similar to a lot of the jackets currently on the high street. The jacket is unlined so a perfect for make spring.
