THE EDIT: NEW SEWING PATTERN RELEASES – 11 FEBRUARY
Mel Forrest

It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!

If you love pockets and workwear styling, the Chalk and Notch Den Jacket might be the spring make for you. There are seam lines in the sleeve and bodice that allow for topstitching or colour blocking. The sleeve facing acts as a fold-up cuff. The centre front closure can be buttons or snaps. View A is an on-trend cropped jacket that finishes mid-rise. View B is a hip length jacket that finishes at the lower hips. Both views include front patch pockets and large in-seam pockets.

Do you love darts? Well, this clever pattern has them in unexpected places. The easy-fitting barrel-shaped Archer Work Pants feature knee darts on both the front and back legs as well as a back ankle dart, giving these pants their distinctive shape. Other special details include oversized askew front pockets and a contrasting inseam panel.

Tempted to try zero waste sewing this year? I think this is a great pattern to start with. The ZW Jumper has an oversized body with a curved hem and a slim sleeve making it perfect for layering.

Romance is (supposedly) in the air, but the only romance I need is from a sewing pattern! Inspired by 19th-century virago sleeves, the Ophelia Dress and Top deliver a dose of whimsy with a modern edge. Those sleeves are mesmerising.

If you enjoy a vintage aesthetic, the Milano Dress & Blouse is worth a look. This 1940s-inspired dress and blouse features an empire cut, high collar with gathers, and long bishop sleeves. Version 1 is a dress closed with buttons at the centre front. Version 2 is a blouse closed with an invisible zipper in the side seam.

How cute are the Pilou Pyjamas? These classic unisex pyjamas have a comfortable straight cut. The neckline, hem of the top, sleeves and legs are all finished with ribbing or jersey bands. By using different knit fabrics, from fine jersey to the thickest sweatshirt fabric, you can make pyjamas for all seasons. You can also use the top pattern to make a sweatshirt, and the pants pattern to sew a pair of joggers!

This pattern gave us all a touch of nostalgia – remembering to animal slippers we had in our youth! The Patapouf Slippers include five designs: rabbit, cat, deer, penguin and dragon. Or you can make a single-colour version without the character details. The opening can be finished with a ribbed band that covers the ankle. The ankle-high version is particularly appropriate for small feet.
