Find that pattern: The Serpent
Hands up who’s watched The Serpent on the BBC recently? If not go and watch immediately and come back, that’s an order! I’m sure many of you loved it as much as we did and we have been inundated with emails asking us to hunt out the patterns from the show. It was an absolute pleasure to sit down and do some detective work. Set in Bangkok in the seventies, The Serpent tells the true story of a jewel thief who robs and murders backpackers on their travels. Although it’s a sinister tale, they do eventually get caught and sent to prison.

I absolutely adored this jumpsuit, fitted at the top with wide legs and a square neckline. I was really pleased with the New Look 6446 I think it’s a really close match to the gorgeous mustard one. If you leave off the optional belt you are nearly there! Another great pattern is the Sloane Overalls from Victory Patterns if you are after a seventies inspired jumpsuit.
I loved this combo, and I think it’s an outfit that you could recreate easily, although it has a seventies feel it’s also timeless. Right the patterns that I found for this look are pretty spot on (if I do say so myself!) For the top I thought the Moselle Top from Nina Lee London was a great option, if you made the bodice a bit shorter then it would be perfect. For the skirt, who doesn’t need a classic demin skirt in their life? The Ellis skirt from Cashmerette would work perfectly!
Next up we have this beautiful summer dress, it’s such a classic timeless shape. After some hunting I found the Rosie dress from Sew Over It, although the skirt is pleated I thought this would be a great starting point.
I adored this jumpsuit, it’s got super wide legs. I’ve done some hunting and found a good starting point. Any ideas very welcome! The McCalls 7910 was the closest I found as it have a wide legged version and would definitely be a good starting point.
This must be the ultimate seventies party dress! I love the cut of this dress, I did a lot of searching and don’t think I’ve got a perfect match but I’ve got two good starting points. The first is the Rose City Halter from Sew House Seven, this felt like a good stating point with a similar shape on the top of the dress. The other option is the Bombshell swimsuit from Closet Core Patterns as a jersey option for the dress.
How great is this outfit and I’ve got to say I was very pleased with the pattern I found. The top is the Dove Blouse from Megan Neilsen and for the trousers. I thought that the Jessa trousers from Tilly and the Buttons would be a great option.
This look was the cover for the programme and I love it. For the jacket I thought that the Heather blazer from Friday Pattern Company was a good option. Although the collar is a different shape it has the same feel and the length is perfect. For the trousers the Narcisse pants from Deer and Doe.
I loved this top and I don’t think I found a perfect match. The Adrianna Top from The Patterns Room would be a good starting point. If you can think of a closer one I’d love to know.

This beautiful old dressing gown that looks a bit like an old Kimono. Had a good hunt I thought that the Suki robe from Helen’s Closet was a pretty good match.
Last but not least we have this fabulous 50s dress – the fabric for this is just out of this world. Not a perfect match but I thought that the McCalls 7351 was pretty close and would make a fantastic summer dress!

McCalls 7864 View C is almost a perfect match for the jumpsuit. It even has a short central seam on the front bodice, where you could add buttons. Now off to find a similar fabric!
