Trending: Pullover Sweaters

Have you spotted that pull-over sweaters keep popping up all over the high street? They are a cool take on a comfy jumper that will update winter and spring outfits with a double dose of warmth. We are always keeping our eyes peeled for trends that translate into sewing patterns and I’ve seen lots of styles featuring a modern half-zip or a half-button placket. The half closure serves as an aesthetic detail, but also means when fastened up you can seal the heat in! They look great in a range of sweater knits, cosy sweatshirt fabrics or warming fleeces (that I’ve seen in lots of fabric shops lately!). Whip one up and wear it until the weather starts to warm!

Here is a selection of pattern options for creating this look, starting with options with half-zip fronts, and then moving into half-button placket designs. Enjoy!

Fibre Mood Didi Pullover

Woman wearing the Didi Pullover sewing pattern from Fibre Mood on The Fold Line. A jumper pattern made in chunky knit fabric, French terry, sweatshirt fabric, ribbed knit or knit jacquard fabrics, featuring an oversized fit, large collar with zip opening at the front, ribbed cuff and hem, and dropped shoulders.

The first one on the list is also my personal sewing list – the Fibre Mood Didi Pullover. This oversized jumper features dropped shoulders and a trendy zip detail. It scores 200% on comfy and has a high wearability factor. This jumper isn’t likely to spend much time in your closet. And Didi is a garment hacker’s dream. Omit the sleeves, and you’ve got an instant, on-trend bodywarmer. That’s right – hack me baby, one more time!

Wardrobe by Me Half Zipper Sweater

Woman wearing the Half Zipper Sweater sewing pattern from Wardrobe by Me on The Fold Line. A sweater pattern made in fleece, french terry or plush teddy fabrics, featuring a high collar, zipper from neck to chest, relaxed fit, dropped shoulders and set-in sleeves.

This new releases feels like it’s right on the money with the designs I spotted on the high street. The Wardrobe by Me Half Zipper Sweater is a sporty pullover with a high collar and a zipper from the neck to the chest. The fit is roomy and comfortable with dropped shoulders and set-in sleeves. You can also make this top as a simple sweatshirt. Add contrast bands to the shoulders and sleeves for a cool retro version. There’s also a very similar style men’s style from Wardrobe by Me. It looks great in fleece fabric.

It’s a dead-ringer for the high street versions I’ve seen.

This has to be the coolest on one the list! The Vikisews Lindsey Hoodie is a loose-fitting sweatshirt with a trapeze silhouette. The front features princess seams with internal in-seam pockets, and the back features a shaped yoke. The sweatshirt has a dropped shoulder and long sleeves with cuffs.
