Buy the Stasia Dress and Tee sewing pattern from Sew Liberated. Stasia is a knit dress and tee that feels like secret pyjamas. Yet the subtle V in the front, fitted bodice and flowing skirt give Stasia that little something extra, and with so many options Stasia is a true wardrobe workhorse!

Which Stasia will you make first? Start by deciding between a dress or a close-fitting tee. If you are making a dress, do you want a short dress ending just above your knees, or a midi dress reaching to mid-shin? Do you prefer sleeveless, a short cap sleeve, a 3/4-length sleeve or a long sleeve? You can also make any view in a low-back or high-back version and add pockets to the dress.

The instructions contain loads of tips for sewing with knits, so get your sewing machine humming and let your inner beauty shine through to the outside with the Stasia Dress and Tee.

Suggested fabrics: Knit fabric with at least 40% stretch and quick recovery. For a flowy, soft dress or tee, choose a fabric with rayon or bamboo content, in addition to spandex. For a more structured dress (and if you choose to add pockets) look for a mid-to-heavy weight fabric with at least 40% stretch and good recovery such as French terry, cotton jersey or ponte.

Fabric requirements:

Sizes 0 - 20: 58" (147 cm) wide fabric: View A Short Dress, 2 - 2.3 yd (1.9 - 2.2 m) // View B Midi Dress, 3.4 - 3.6 yd (3.1 - 3.3 m) // View C Tee, 1 - 1.5 yd (0.9 - 1.3 m).

Sizes 22 - 34: 58" (147 cm) wide fabric: View A Short Dress, 2.6 - 3 yd (2.4 - 2.7 m) // View B Midi Dress, 3.7 - 3.8 yd (3.4 - 3.5 m) // View C Tee, 1.8 - 2.1 yd (1.7 - 1.8 m).

Sizing: US 0 - 34 (approx. UK 6/8 - 32/34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern has been drafted for a height of 5'5" (165 cm) and a C cup size.

Negative ease is commonly used for knit fabrics that have more give and can stretch around your body comfortably. A negative ease garment will measure smaller than your actual body measurements, but will still stretch enough to fit you comfortably. The Stasia Dress and Tee has been designed with 4.25" (10.8 cm) of negative ease in the bust and no negative ease in the waist. Your fabric choice will have a huge impact on the fit. A fabric with a large amount of stretch will fit a bit more loosely, while one with less stretch will be more form fitting. The combination of fabric choice and your personal preference of how snugly you want the bodice to fit will determine what size to make.

Notions: Coordinating thread; clear elastic or knit stay tape for shoulder seams (optional); stretch needle for your sewing machine.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (58 pages for sizes 0-24, 69 pages for sizes 22-34); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets for sizes 0-24, 4 sheets for sizes 22-34) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.

Lovely dress but not for beginners.

The Sew Liberated Stasia caught my eye because of its low sweeping necklines (back and front) and the pointed waistline seam thats easily missed unless you see the line drawings. I managed to get the short sleeved dress with a reasonably full skirt out of just 2 metres!

I like the finished product, but the instructions were unclear in places - I would say it's definitely not for beginners. Sometimes they missed the vital point of the step they describe such as the pivot at the point of the bodice or how to add the neckband. Without having done them with other patterns, I think I'd have struggled.

The sizing charts are also unclear. I don't know if the charts were finished garment measurements or body measurements. I took a guess at the latter and had to nip it in significantly at the waist when finished.

I do think this pattern will be a staple now I've got it fitted. It's great to throw on and look put together, and I'll be making a maxi and a long sleeve version. But don't make it your first foray into knits...
