Buy the Elliot Sweater and Tee sewing pattern from Helen's Closet. The Elliot Sweater is your go-to cosy layer for everyday wear. Dress it up with dark denim and boots, or keep it casual over leggings and sneakers. View A has a stylish high-low hem with a side slit that provides comfort around the hips. View B is slightly cropped, perfect for pairing with high-waisted pants and skirts. View C makes a great everyday t-shirt. All views feature a raglan sleeve and three neck options are provided: an extra tall version that can be scrunched down or folded over, a medium height version, and a classic knit band.

What we think: Another great wardrobe staple here. We really like that this pattern will take you from summer to winter, and there are lots of options to make it your own. Different weights of jersey will really transform this pattern.
Suggested fabrics: Sweater knits with at least 20% stretch widthwise and 10% stretch lengthwise. Views A and B work best in a medium to heavy weight sweater knit, rib knit, or french terry. Ponte and scuba knits can be used and will result in a more structured final garment. A drapey or slinky fabric will result in a relaxed neck. View C works best in a light to medium weight jersey or ITY knit.
Fabric requirements:
View A: 57" (145 cm) wide fabric: 1.6 - 3.0 yd (1.5 - 2.7 m) // 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 2.5 - 3.3 yd (2.3 - 3 m).
Views B and C: 57" (145 cm) wide fabric: 1.4 - 2 yd (1.3 - 1.8 m) // 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 1.8 - 2.5 yd (1.7 - 2.3 m).
Sizing: US 0 – 34 (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.
This pattern has been drafted for a 5'6" (168 cm) tall person with a B-cup bust.

I've wanted a couple of tops to throw on when I go to aerial yoga for a long time. The Elliot seemed like a very good option and I made 2 back to back. I love them!
The pattern is very simple and comes together really quickly. I made the 4/6 size for a 34" bust. The only change I made was to lengthen the sleeves. I think I ended up adding about 8 inches to them, just following the line of the sleeve seam as is. I'm not a fan of 3/4 sleeves. The long turtleneck is so cosy and I love the comfort and range of movement of the raglan shoulders.
The instructions, as always, are second to none from Helen. They're very clear, helpful and the illustrations are brilliant, too. I am about to make another version of this, for warmer weather. Just a t-shirt but I'm very excited for it. ?

This is another simple, but brilliant pattern from Helen's Closet and with the variations you can make, it's also really good value for money.
I used some yellow melange fleece backed jersey from Sew Me Sunshine for my sweater and decided to sew it with the soft fleece side on the outside, as I preferred the appearance. It's a lovely weight for this pattern - it's not too heavy and has plenty of drape for the neckline detail.
This is the fifth Helen's Closet pattern I have sewn and as usual, the quality of instructions is fantastic. If you have never sewn with knits before, have a go at the Elliot and let Helen hold your hand and teach you everything you need to know along the way!
I made the size 4/6 with no alterations and I'm really happy with the fit. Next time I would extend the sleeves to be full-length to make the sweater even more cosy.
The finished garment is exactly what I wanted - comfy, warm and nice to wear with leggings for yoga. What sets it apart from other sweaters are the details - a beautiful high-low hem with side split and a super tall neckband - gorgeous! I'll be giving the t-shirt version of the pattern a try next...

I have made this pattern 3 times already. It is a well drafted pattern, easy to make and really clear instructions.
I made the size large and made the version with the neckband and side slit. I am looking forward to trying the other versions as well. Each time I used a sweatshirt jersey which was fleecy on the inside, but this pattern would work well in French terry and cotton jersey. If you want a great jumper pattern for winter or a looser fit tee then this is the pattern to try.

My Elliot was a wearable toile, I was being cautious but didn't need to be as it sewed like a dream. It's the perfect sweater for the chilly months with the added bonus of a tee version. Lovely clear instructions and a great intro to knits. More info on the blog.

I was fortunate to be part of the Tester Group for this pattern, making one version as part of the testing process; subsequently batch sewing two further versions once I’d get my mitts on the finalised copy of the pattern. It’s an incredibly easy - and quick - pattern to sew and makes a garment you’ll potentially get loads of wear out of. A good intro to sewing with knits; Helens instructions, as always, are incredibly clear. I made View A for all my versions but I see the Tee popping into my sewing queue come Spring!
