Super cosy! – Nina Lee

A review of Nina Lee Southbank Sweater & Sweater Dress

I’m pretty pleased with my recently finished Southbank Sweater Dress and I think that with a few tweaks it could be the perfect winter staple in my wardrobe!

This would be an ideal project for someone with experience of sewing woven fabrics who would like to have a go at working with knits. I made my dress entirely on my overlocker, but the instructions make it very clear how to sew it on a regular machine.

I used some beautiful red ponte from Sew Over It for my dress and required less than 2 metres. There are only 3 pattern pieces and the construction is super simple. I found the instructions clear and easy to follow and I thought the printed booklet and paper pattern were lovely quality.

I made the size 10 dress as I wanted plenty of ease around my hips and a relaxed fit. I definitely think I could make the 8 in future if I wanted it to be a little more fitted.

I didn’t make any alterations to the pattern, but next time I would raise the pockets by 1-2 inches as they are a tiny bit far down for me (I’m 5ft 4).

The dress is just how I imagined it would be and I think will be very versatile depending on the footwear and accessories I choose to pair it with. The main thing I love is how cosy and comfortable it is to wear – definite secret pyjamas credibility!
