Satisfying make

A review of Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks

Putting together the Free-Range Slacks was a very satisfying experience and I’d recommend this pattern. It was my first time using a SH7 pattern, and I would definitely use one of their patterns again. The instructions and diagrams were clear, and basic instructions were included for how to make common fitting adjustments. I made Version 1 (tapered) in a size 12 with no grading, however I shortened the rise by 2 inches, and I went with the Version 2 length as I didn’t want to roll up the cuffs. I also ended up making a narrower waistband (1cm narrower) as I had only 3 cm wide elastic. The waistband hits me right across my belly button and the hem is about 3″ above my ankle. The finished inseam is 24″. The original pattern would have been super high waisted on me. I decided to do the flat felled seams that were suggested as an option and I think they really elevate the trousers. I also put on both back pockets. I used a heavier 100% navy blue linen and it was lovely to work with. I got away with using 1.7m of 140cm wide fabric. I had to cut the side panel in two pieces, but the seam fits well with the overall look. There’s nice ease to the finished trousers without them looking baggy. I’ve got strong calves and I thought I might have to grade the lower leg due to the taper, but no need. I’m really looking forward to wearing these and I think they’ll go into heavy summer wardrobe rotation! My measurements: waist – 86 cm, high hip – 98 cm, and full hip – 105 cm. I hope to attach photos to this review eventually! 😀
