Roomy – Zadie Blouse

A review of Sew Over It Zadie Blouse

I enjoyed making this blouse that stretched me slightly. I simplified it by adding elastic at the wrist rather than the cuff. I did a rolled hem for the first time using a rolled hem foot. Next time I would hem the pieces before sewing together. Buttonholes I find hard; another time I might just sew the edges one on top of the other as it is definitely roomy enough to pop over. I made size 20 as I’ve put on weight and that seems to be what the sizing indicated but in reality a couple of sizes down would have been fine. I like the slightly strange dart in the raglan sleeve, you end up with slight shoulder pad look, even with the very light (75gsm) cotton I used. The rajasthani block print worked well in this style, I think, and hides a multitude of sins. I couldn’t decide between shiny mother of pearl buttons or discreet self-covered and in the end went for self-covered following a poll on facebook among friends. Some strong feelings came out!
