Opium Coat – Deer & Doe

I’m a huge fan of this pattern – it makes for a chic and stylish coat without much fuss. The unique welt pocket shaping adds interest and the swing silhouette is very flattering. I made mine in a thick wool coating.

The only alteration I had to make was to lengthen the sleeves, which is a standard alteration for me. The raglan sleeves mean there’s less fitting work to do around the shoulders – win! I cut a size down from my recommended size, because there is loads of ease in the pattern and I was a little nervous about feeling overwhelmed by too much fabric. I’m really happy with the sizing as a result.

The instructions were great and the coat was actually very quick and easy to make. If you’re interested in how I interfaced (for structure) and interlined (for warmth), there’s a full review of the pattern with much more detail on my blog (www.michellesews.com).
