Suggested fabrics: Medium weight woven cloth, 8-11 oz. denim, cotton canvas, cotton drill and yarn dyed linen. If you are using a thick fabric, you may decide to cut the waistband and button fly pieces out of a thinner fabric to reduce bulk.

110 cm wide fabric: 2.45 - 3.15 m // 120 cm wide fabric: 2.25 - 2.8 m // 140 cm wide fabric: 1.95 - 2.3 m // 150 cm wide fabric: 1.85 - 2.15 m.
Sizes 18 – 28
110 cm (43 1/2") wide fabric: 3.2 - 3.7 m (3 1/2 - 4 yd) // 120 cm (47") wide fabric: 3.2 - 3.3 m (3 1/2 - 3 3/4 yd) // 140 cm (55") wide fabric: 2.75 - 3.2 m (3 - 3 1/2 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 2.3 - 2.75 m (2 1/2 - 3 yd).
Sizing: UK 6 – 18 or UK 18 – 28 (approx. UK 6 – 16/18 or UK 18 – 30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size charts and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Matching thread; contrasting thread (optional); two 40 mm dungaree clips; two 40 mm adjustable sliders; six hammer-on buttons (or sew-on buttons); 0.5 m of lining fabric for pocket, fly and waist facing. If your fabric is light to medium weight, you could use 'self' fabric for the fly and waist facing.
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (35 pages for sizes 6-18, 45 pages for sizes 18-28); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets for sizes 6-18, 3 sheets for sizes 18-28).

I have made three of these so far - two for me and one for my niece.
In true Merchant and Mills style the pattern is like a wonderful jigsaw that slowly comes together. The instructions are clear and precise and the whole sewing experience is very rewarding. I would rate it as an intermediate sew - but I see no reason why a thoughtful beginner couldn't easily use this pattern.
I made a size larger than I usually do with M&M patterns because it made them extra roomy. I added a row of elastic, hand sewed to the inside of the back waist seam, just to pull the extra fabric in when standing as it makes them more comfortable as I have a very straight figure.
This one is in 11oz Kojima Denim from Merchant and Mills and is perfect for the pattern. It sews up beautifully. My first was in their 8 oz Organic Sanded Twill which was also great to sew and is a lighter weight for warmer weather.

I absolutely love this pattern. Very classic overalls - the pattern instructions are very easy to follow and I love the extra top stitching details. Really happy with the fit. Made a size 8, no adjustments.

I've made a fair few pairs of dungarees and I think the Harlene pattern is my new favourite! It's a really nice 'meaty' project to get stuck into over a number of sewing sessions and I enjoyed taking my time over all the clever details. The instructions are very comprehensive and I'm really pleased with the quality of the finish, both inside and out. I used an 8oz denim for my dungarees and made a size 8 - there are lots more details and photos in my latest blog post, which you can find here.

I sewed these up in a 10 oz. Organic Duck Canvas from Blackbird Fabrics. and graded from a 12 at the bust to a 14 at the hip.
The hardware is the antique brass Jenny Overalls Hardware Kit (with the extra buttons) from Closet Core Patterns.
I lengthened legs 1 1/2 inches and added tool loop
According to the size chart and my measurements it put me in a size 16 at the bust and 18 at the hips, but I looked at the finished measurements and did not want nearly as much ease so I sized down two sizes (to a 12 at the bust and a 14 at the hip) and am glad I did. These are still roomy, which is great for garden overalls, but I have plans to sew another pair and may just sew a straight size 12.
The only thing I might change next time would be to take some darts out of the bib so that it’s a bit more fitted around the bust. Otherwise, these are exactly the classic overall pattern I was looking for!

These are probably the most comfortable thing to wear right now - so cosy can warm. I have been wanting to make a more relaxed fitting pair of dungarees for ages but just couldn't find the right pattern. But thanks to a bit of inspiration on social media I spotted this pattern and just had to give it a go!
The dungarees are designed to be made up in a nice thick stable fabric and I chose a lovely chunky black cord for mine and I think it worked well. There are quite a few pattern pieces but no interfacing is needed which surprised me at first but considering the type of fabric I used I don't think it is necessary at all.
The construction is pretty involved as there is an awful lot of topstitching (which is completely optional) so I took my time slowly working through all the steps. It is definitely a more advanced pattern and your sewing machine needs to be able to work with heavy fabrics and to happily topstitch if you are doing this.
I found the instructions easy to follow, although I was frustrated at times when in the instructions they didn't write the full name of the pattern pieces and relied on you knowing the number of the pattern piece which meant I had to keep referring back to check. Aside from this the instructions were incredibly clear to follow.
I had to make a lot of adjustments in the length of the leg as I am quite tall and I was pleased that there are multiple areas marked on the pattern pieces where adjustments can be made which is very handy. I made the size 12 and they fit perfectly and nice and loose which is the style.
If you are looking for a good dungaree pattern to replicate those in the shops and you are an experienced sewer I would definitely recommend!
