My favourite plated skirt!

My favourite plated skirt! I have made two Lizzie skirts, this teal one out of a rayon-nylon blend and another skirt in a rayon challis. With these nice drapey fabrics, the skirt sways and flows elegantly when you walk or dance ?

This is a beginner to advanced-beginner pattern. The side seam pocket, invisible zipper, pleats and overhang waistband all require some care. The instructions were clear as a bright summer day, with beautiful step-by-step coloured photos that were easy to follow.

I ended up going a little rogue with the pleating. This is one reason to love pleats: you can make a mistake or have an awkward fit and just tuck it away into a beautiful fold.

One of the best parts is that I actually used the amount of fabric that the pattern called for. Hourray for not adding to the stash pile!

What was odd about this pattern is that I did not add to the length. Since I’m 5’10, I usually need to add a few inches to a skirt pattern. For those of you who are shorter, however, I guess it would be simple enough to shorten the skirt after sewing it all together if needed.
