McCalls Coats M7848 review

A review of McCalls Coats M7848

I enjoyed sewing this pattern – I basically made view D, but using the shorter skirt from view C (which is just below knee length on me). As coats go, I think it’s fairly straightforward to sew – the pattern doesn’t call for any form of tailoring. I would say that if you’re happy sewing a lined dress, then there isn’t anything here that should be too challenging.
As with most commercial patterns, the instructions are succinct in comparison with indie patterns, but they’re perfectly clear still and I didn’t find anything confusing.
My measurements put me in a 16 at the bust and 18 at the waist and hips – the 18 is in the bigger sized version of the pattern though so I made a straight 16 but used a slightly smaller seam allowance just above/below the waist to make sure I have enough room! I lengthened the bodice too, which is a standard adjustment for me.
