It’s The Little Things That Mean So Much

A review of Atelier Scämmit Petites Choses Blouse/Dress

Petites Choses is described as a bohemian style blouse, the pattern seemed so versatile with 24 different possible combinations of neckline, sleeve length and back design.  I chose the keyhole neckline, long sleeved blouse with a full back.

Having cut out the pattern pieces from less fabric than the 170cm suggested, I got to work on the blouse.  The instruction booklet has French and English instructions and small colour photos.  There is also a step-by -step video on Atelier Scammitt’s website for this design.  I found myself referring to this quite frequently as I felt some of the instructions were on the brief side. The photographs were too small to see clearly what the translated instructions were saying so it was useful to have a video for reference.  The video is only in French but I managed to follow fairly well with my schoolgirl French from over 30 years ago.  I was quite amused thet French Seam translates to la couture anglaise!

I took my time to get the keyhole neckline as accurate as possible, since any mistakes here would be very noticeable. For the rest of the construction, I used French seams on all seams, rather than just the shoulder and side seams as I knew the viscose was prone to fraying.  The instruction booklet does not contain a glossary of terms, instead the asterisks in the text just refer to a one line entry that the terms are explained in the tips section of the website.

I love the two part long sleeves and the neat finish of the narrow wristband. They are billowy without being outrageously impractical. The mid sleeve seam lines up perfectly with the curved front yoke seam and the gathering unites the whole design.
