Great challenging make for a beginner

As a very novice sewer (this is only the second item of clothing I’ve ever made), I was nervous about starting this, but actually it wasn’t too traumatic. I chose the sleeveless jumpsuit version. I’m 5ft 11″ (180cm) so I lengthened the crotch depth by an inch, and also added about 3 inches onto the length of the pants.

I used a crepe de chine fabric which was a bit tricky to cut out, and to work with, because the fabric had a slight ‘give’ to it and is quite delicate so it moved around a lot! It does, however, makes the finished jumpsuit very drapey which I like. I used a cotton voile for the lining of the bodice. Not sure if this is the best combo of lining and top fabric, but it seemed to work out okay.

The instructions for how to attach the invisible zipper really confused me, however there is a lady on Youtube who has some step by step videos where she goes through how she made this exact jumpsuit! So I followed her instructions on how to attach the zipper.

There is no mention in the instructions about finishing the raw edges, but I went ahead and zig zagged all of mine.

Next time I’d like to make it in a fabric that has a bit more structure so that the pants really flare out from the waist. My patterned fabric also means you can’t see the princess seams in the bodice, but with a plain fabric these will be more noticeable and make more of a feature of it.
