Gaia Coat Love

This Gaia coat is my favourite coat of all times! I made it last winter and wear it all the time. I actually have to remind myself that I do have other coats in my wardrobe and that some of them go better with some outfits 🙂

I made it in boiled wool which was great to work with but it was really thick to sew at a few hems. This was mostly an issue around pockets because there are several layers to sew through there. But it was great to iron which is always an important step in sewing coats.

I love the style lines of this pattern. It has an interesting collar that is easy to construct and big pockets that can fit your phone and most things you could wear in pockets. It is somewhat oversized but not too much. Love it in this rust colour and the fact that I finally have a coat that is not black.

I wrote a blog post about it back when it was fresh from the machine so there are more details on the construction and photos if you head over there: https://thesewingnomade.com/2019/01/18/gaia-quilted-coat-by-named-clothing/
