Fitting When You’re Only 5’2”

I’d been wanting to make this for a while and was hoping to use some linen/viscose with a slight stretch, but there was no way I could squeeze it out of 2m…..so I’ve used a lightweight wool that had been lurking in the corner for too long! The pattern is fabric hungry due to the long tie being part of the bodice and the cutting plans use a single layer of fabric meaning you need quite a big space for cutting out.

I’m only 5’2” so I made a mock up to workout how much I needed to shorten the length both above and below the waist. The crotch depth seems very long to me, but the biggest problem is shortening the shoulder to waist length due to the unusual shape of the front bodice.  I explain how I did it along with other sewing tips in a blogpost Mirri blog and sew a long

I didn’t really want the very wide legs so I tapered both seams and then stitched again parallel to the outside seam to narrow the ankle and create a pleat.

I’d definitely recommend this pattern as it can be made with or without sleeves and can be layered over a jumper. I also think it could look amazing as an occasion piece by choosing a luxurious fabric
