Fabby Bag! – Jack Tar Bag

A review of Merchant & Mills Jack Tar Bag

Wanted to make myself a bag to take on holiday that was robust enough to cope with being dragged around from aeroplane to aeroplane and roomy enough to hold all the stuff I needed to carry. Loved that this bag had some interesting details but was still a big blank canvas on the outer shell for me to embellish as I wanted (hadn’t done any hand sewing for ages but really fancied doing some embroidery to make it more personal)… Pattern itself very straightforward and easy to follow, some interesting techniques and, embroidery aside, it took just an afternoon to out together. Feels like a really sturdy piece so think this bag will last a good while before needing replaced. I used dry oilskin from Merchant and Mills and a grey duck canvas that I’d bought from them yonks ago following the publication of their first book. I would always recommend M&M patterns – I’ve made several and have yet to find any downside really.
