Easy peasy wardrobe staple!

This is a super pattern for beginner dressmakers and a nice quick project for experienced sewists. The relaxed shape of the dress makes it easy to fit and the pretty key-hole detail is very simple to sew, with a lovely hand-finished bias neckline.

I bought some beautiful floral print viscose from Material Girl Laura and wanted a simple garment that would allow the fabric to shine. Lulu is perfect and the floaty lightweight fabric makes this dress a dream to wear in warmer weather! If you like to have as little fabric touching you as possible on a hot day, but can’t get away with being naked – this is the dress for you!

I usually find Sew Over It instructions clear and well-written and I had no problems following them when constructing my dress. Most of the Sew Over It garments I have made in a size 10 fit me well, so I opted for my usual size. Lulu is meant to have a relaxed fit and I love the way the dress hangs, but I think next time I would make the size 8 for a better fit around the neckline and shoulders.

I didn’t make any alterations to the pattern and other than making a size smaller, I wouldn’t change anything next time I make a Lulu.

My favourite thing about Lulu is the delicate bias finished neckline. The gathers are really pretty and the whole design has a lovely vintage feel. I loved hunting around in my button collection for the perfect orphaned button to adorn my dress and I enjoyed learning how to add a chain-loop during the construction.
