Coco – Tilly and the Buttons

A review of Tilly and the Buttons Coco Top and Dress

I was thinking about buying the Coco pattern for a long time and I think it was really worth it.
My first Coco is the dress version with long sleeves. I think it is a great pattern for a beginner but also a rather quick and satisfying project for advanced sewists looking for a dress or shirt without too many fiddly details. You can still add a lot of interesting details (like the cuffs, pockets or the funnel neck included in the pattern) if you want to.
I used a cotton jersey with 5 % spandex although the pattern instruction asks for knit fabric with little stretch. I think it worked fine, though.
As I am a pear shape, I combined different sizes (size 2 for bust and waist, size 3 for the hip). I think there is a tutorial on how to do that on Tilly’s website, so it is really easy. I was a little concerned about the size of the sleeves: I wanted them to have the same, slightly loose fit as the bodice but I have rather strong upper arms, so I cut them in size 3 though I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to fit them into the size 2 armholes… It took me a little more time as if they had been the same size, but it turned out fine.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the result and I’d recommend this pattern.
