Amelia Jacket in Pink Jumbo Cord

Reviewed by Holly Stevens on 17th August, 2019

The Amelia Jacket was released with the Lisa Comfort Magazine Issue 6. It’s a cropped bomber style jacket with a nod to the 40’s era. It has a collar (don’t worry no collar stand) and elasticsted cuffs at the waist and sleeves. It really is a cute little jacket!

I was certain I wanted a pink corduroy one so off I went scouring the internet for the perfect cord. It took a while, I must have searched through 20+ independent online fabric shops until I found this one! This lovely jumbo dusk pink corduroy is from Escape and Create. Not only was the fabric delivered in recyclable, eco-friendly packaging but it was super speedy too!

I definitely underestimated how long this jacket would take me to make, I almost forgot that it is an actual JACKET pattern, so definitely allocate a decent amount of time to make this! The instructions were fab, just enough detail. The collar was very straightforward to attach, I only decided to interface one layer of it as my fabric was quite thick already. The zip was also reasonably straightforward to insert. The only point that got a little tricky was getting the elastic into the cuffs. I actually used 4cm wide elastic instead of the recommended 5cm and I’m glad I did as it would have been even trickier to insert! But this was only because the fabric I chose is slightly on the thicker side of what you want for this make. A thinner cord or lightweight denim or wool would be perfect. At some points you have four or more layers or fabric to sew together and as this was chunky cord – you can understand my struggle! But anyway I managed it just about.
