A Silky Satin Bonnie

I’m a definite fan of a simpler style and this pattern is definitely that, however it has a very sophisticated and on-trend pleat sleeve detail that I instantly really liked.

The Bonnie Top has a curved boat neckline, french darts and the most gorgeous box pleat sleeve hem. It’s also finished at the back with a sleek opening and a hook and eye closure. Suitable for all sorts of fabrics for all sorts of occasions! I fancied a plain version so decided to use a gold silky satin, which I think accentuates the sleeve pleat detail nicely – it’s definitely more of a ‘going out’ top!

I fell between the size 2 and 4 bust measurement, although was closer to the 2 so that’s what I went for. Body height is also included in the blouse measurements and changes depending on what size you make which I’ve not seen on a pattern before. This was really useful as the size 2 body height was 5’38” and as I’m 5’2″ I thought the length would be fine as I like longer length tops anyway. I made no alterations to the pattern pieces thinking that I could probably get away with the loose ish style and I had plenty of fabric to play with if I did need to make any alterations and cut any pattern pieces again.

The instructions are good but quite basic, and some previous experience of sewing a basic top or dress is recommended. The illustrations are drawn which is great and it’s really clear to see what the step involves if you’re more of a visual learner.

Overall I was really chuffed with my Bonnie, my fabric choice made it a slightly trickier sew, but it was well worth it for a really fancy looking finished result! I would recommend the Bonnie for an advanced beginner/intermediate sewer who is happy with simpler pattern instructions and slightly drapier fabrics (although this would look awesome in a cotton lawn for a more structured look too!)
