A flattering, feminine shirt!

I’ve always felt a little ‘butch’ in shirts, so when I was introduced to the Bruyere pattern and it’s feminine silhouette I was keen to try it and see if I could shake off that association!

This is the first Deer and Doe pattern I have sewn and I was very impressed with the quality of the instructions. They were clear and easy to follow and although I have sewn a few shirts before, would be very suitable for a shirt- sewing novice too.

I used some delicious brushed Japanese cotton for my shirt and would recommend using a solid colour if you too cannot be bothered to fiddle about with pattern matching! The fabric is lightweight and beautifully soft and I think it works really well for this garment. It frayed quite easily, so I opted to French all the seams in my shirt for a clean and durable finish. I made the size 38 with no alterations and it fits really nicely.

I have really enjoyed wearing my Bruyere and I definitely don’t feel butch in it at all! The waistband, pleats and skirt give such a pretty and flattering shape and lots of people have commented on how much they like it. The finished garment is exactly how I imagined it and now I’m tempted to make another in some kind of plaid… I think the extra effort to pattern-match would be well worth it!
