Suggested fabricsLight/medium weight knit fabrics with 50%+ stretch and excellent return (returns to its original size and shape after being stretched). Possible fabrics include cotton/lycra jersey and athletic polyester/lycra jersey. You can use the same fabric for your outer and lining. Additionally, you can provide extra support by sewing a middle layer of power mesh.

Fabric requirementsThe yardage is calculated for directional fabric. If your fabric does not have a directional print, you may need a little less. If you are using up scraps/leftovers then you can piece the straps and use significantly less.

140 cm (55") wide fabric (amount required for each of two fabrics, outer and lining): 50 - 60 cm (1/2 - 5/8 yd).

Sizing: XXS – 5XL and A - H cups. Please check the designer’s size chart.

When picking a size for this pattern DO NOT use your bra size. Measure your high bust and use that to pick your size (XXS - 5XL). Then measure your full bust. The difference between your high bust and full bust gives you your sewing cup size: 2.5 cm (1") = A cup / 5 cm (2") = B cup / 7.5 cm (3") = C cup / 10 cm (4") = D cup / 12.5 cm (5") = E cup / 15 cm (6") = F cup / 17.5 cm (7") = G cup / 20 cm (8") = H cup.

Don’t panic if your sewing size seems very different to your shop bought bra size. Sewing cups take into account your shoulders and back in a way that traditional bra sizing doesn’t.

Notions: Clear elastic (optional, provides extra support), 6 mm (1/4") is ideal but 10 mm (3/8") can be used, 210 - 250 cm (2 3/8 - 2 3/4 yd); wide plush elastic (for the elastic band option), 35 mm (1 3/8") - 50 mm (2") can be used (wider is a better choice for larger sizes and is more comfortable), 55 - 95 cm (5/8 - 1 1/8 yd); sew-in bra cups (optional); jersey/stretch needle.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/legal/letter print-at-home pattern (64 pages for all sizes, 5-9 pages per size); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets); projector pattern. This pattern has layers so you can print just the sizes(s) you need. Note: This pattern is designed to be printed in colour.

The most comfortable bra ever

I have made two Superstar bras, both from bamboo jersey.  They're so comfortable!!  Seriously, they're quite probably the most comfortable bra I've ever owned.

As with all W&W instructions I've experienced, they're written really well and contain a lot of necessary detail.  I was careful to read the sizing instructions before picking up the scissors.  The straps don't slip off my shoulders, which is a huge win for me.

Bamboo jersey is a great pairing for this bra as it's very soft on the skin.  I made the version with the band made from my main material, so this bra is more about comfort than support.  There are instructions on how to make with foam cups (potential swimming top??!) and with more supportive bands for options.

Here's a picture of me looking pleasantly surprised at how comfy I am :o)

Simple to sew and so comfy!

If you fancy giving bra making a try, this is a really good pattern!

It can be made using just jersey fabric (with the option of using elastic instead of jersey for the band, or adding clear elastic/sew-in cups) so there's no need to buy lots of extra notions, and it's fairly simple to sew.

The instructions are very clear and easy to follow, with details of how to choose which size to make and a few pointers on possible fitting alterations. I found the bra simple to make and didn't have any problems at all.

I made the size recommended for my measurements (my high bust is 36" and full bust is just over 39", and I made a size L, C cup), and lengthened the straps by 1.5" (I'm a bit taller than average and usually lengthen patterns), and I'm really pleased with the fit.

I've worn the bra a couple of times now, and it's really comfy. It's described as a lounge bra but I've found that it's perfectly supportive enough for my not-very-large bust for daily wear.

You can read more details and see more photos in my blog post.
