Suggested fabrics:
Outer fabric: Medium - heavy weight woven fabrics are required. Canvas, twill and denim are good choices. Lighter fabrics such as quilting cotton can be used but will need interfacing. You can also use water resistant fabrics such as PUL, ripstop or laminated cotton to make a wipe-clean bag.
Lining fabric: Light - medium weight waterproof fabric such as PUL or thin nylon raincoat fabric.
Fabric requirements:
Yardage is based on a bag with all pockets/options. If you are making a plain bag, you may need less. If you wish to pattern match/fussy cut, you will need more.
Note: The small bag yardage is based on placing the pattern on the correct grain. If you need to be frugal with your fabric, you can turn your pattern pieces 90 degrees and fit it on 40 cm (3/8 yd). The construction of the small bag means it is best suited to non-directional prints.
Outer fabric: 115 cm (44") wide fabric: Large bag, 40 cm (1/2 yd) // Small bag, 80 cm (7/8 yd).
Lining fabric: 115 cm (44") wide fabric: Large bag, 40 cm (1/2 yd) // Small bag, 80 cm (7/8 yd).
Sizing:
The large bag measures approx. 25 cm x 19 cm x 10 cm (10" x 7 1/2" x 4").
The small bag measures approx. 22 cm x 15 cm x 9 cm (8 1/2" x 6" x 3 1/2").
Notions: Fastening: 38 cm (15") closed zip for large bag (chunky zips work best) or 18 cm (7") of 30-40 mm (1 1/8"- 1 1/2") wide sew-on hook and loop tape (Velcro) for small bag // Optional insulating layer: 40 cm (1/2 yd) of insulating fabric // Strap: 25 mm (1") or 30 mm (1 1/4") or 38 mm (1 1/2") nylon/polypropylene strap, 90 cm (1 yd) for large bag or 23 cm (9") for small bag // Binding (large bag only): 180 cm (2 yd) of 12 mm (1/2") double fold bias binding // Twill tape (large bag only): 14 cm (5 1/2") of 20 mm (3/4") twill tape or ribbon/cord/similar // Elastic (for bottle pocket in large bag only): 12 cm (4 3/4") of 12 mm (1/2") or 10 mm (3/8") elastic // Interfacing: a minimum of 2.5 cm (1") medium interfacing for large bag. Depending on your fabric choice you may wish to interface all outer pieces.
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/legal/letter print-at-home pattern (5 pages for small bag, 6 pages for large bag); A0 copy shop pattern (1 sheet); projector pattern.
