Buy the V1595 dress sewing pattern from Vogue® Patterns. It’s perfect for an advanced beginner/intermediate dressmaker. This close-fitting lined dress has back invisible zipper.

Suggested fabrics: For moderate stretch knits only (35% cross grain): Ponte knit, wool jersey.

Note: Unsuitable for obvious diagonals. Fabric requirement allows for nap, one-way design or shading. Extra fabric may be needed to match design or for shrinkage.

Sizing: A5 (6-8-10-12-14), E5 (14-16-18-20-22), approx. UK sizes A5 (4/6 - 10), E5 (10 - 18/20). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: One 20" (51 cm) invisible zipper, one hook and eye.

Simply wonderful. Pick your favorite ponte and go to town. Despite the very formal-looking picture taken by Vogue, this is NOT designed for suitings. You need a material with good stretch.

Along these lines, either find a stretchy lining, or go without a lining entirely, and instead make a facing for the neckline.

Pay attention to the skirt final measurements listed on the pattern. For a material with as much stretch as they call for, the skirt's final measurements should be about 1" less than your actual hip measurements. I made this up for a woman with 43" hips, and sized the skirt to have final hip measurements of 42".

Also, the zipper is completely unnecessary. You will be able to easily worm your way into the dress without it, unless you're looking for an excuse to ask someone to zip you up.
