What we think: The elasticated band on the back is going to make fitting these a lot easier. We really like that the front is fairly flat apart from the pleats.

Fabric requirements: 45" (114 cm) and 54" (137 cm) wide fabric: Views A and C, 2.5 - 2.7 yd (2.3 - 2.5 m) // Views B and D, 1.5 - 1.75 yd (1.4 - 1.6 m).

A toile is recommended but great trousers!

I've made the shorts version (mid-rise) and then the trousers version (also mid-rise) of the Emersons now and really pleased.
The shorts were my wearable toile and following that I found I needed some adjustments to get the front higher (so the waistband was parallel around my waist - about 3/4cm) and I raised the front and back by about 1cm all around. I also added a bit extra for the side seams at the waist - based on my hip measurements I was between sizes so I chose the smaller size based on the ease but perhaps that was a mistake as needed more at the waist.
I then made the trousers version, which I lengthened by a significant amount to get them to the ground (so not the cropped version). Which I love, so easy to wear.
Would like to try the high waisted version next.

Love it! - True Bias

I was looking for a comfortable but smart pair of loose fitting trousers to wear in the heat (although the heatwave was long gone by the time I got to these).
The flat front waistband and elasticated back drew me to the emerson pants, with smart pleats at the front.
I LOVE this pattern and will be making more. Paired with a matching top in a colourful print, I got tons of compliments at a festival, and they 100% fit the brief of smart and comfy.

Excellent holiday shorts

These shorts got me through the recent UK heatwave, and a sunny holiday! Definitely recommend.

The waistband is flat fronted, but elasticated at the back, which is fast becoming my favourite style. The pleats at the front add a nice detail.

I have a pair in viscose linen and ramie, both of which work really well.

I added 2" to the shorts length as I don't like "short shorts" (I'm 5'2" for context).

I also used a different construction on the waistband to advised - more details on my blog ...

Emerson Crop Pants - True Bias

...that's what I've made from this pattern to date with more in the pipeline. This is such a quick and solid sew; you knock out a pair of pants or shorts in the morning and be wearing them in the afternoon; as I did with all my makes...

I did wonder how the pleats and wide legs would look on me, in terms of shape - I'm 5.3". I made the full length trousers in a double-crepe for some swish factor - I'm not sure I'd like them on me in more angular fabric. However, I couldn't be happier with these! Great pattern instructions too!

Emerson Crop Pant and Short

I love this pattern! They are such a easy style to wear as they are pull-on pants with an elasticated waist back and a flat front. Read more on my blog https://emmasatelierblog.com/2020/06/12/emerson-pants/
