Buy the Skye Sundress sewing pattern from Tilly and the Buttons. Reach for this throw-it-on sundress on those sticky, hot summer days when you don’t know what else to wear, or layer it up over a t-shirt as the sun goes down. The easy-fitting empire waist bodice is gently shaped with pleats under the bust and has a neat bias binding finish on the inside.

The slightly square scoop neckline is designed to cover a bra, with optional bra strap stays for added security. Add the optional faux ties to the straps for an extra touch of whimsy. Choose from mini-, knee- or maxi-length hemlines for the floaty, gathered skirt. And, of course, it has side seam pockets for your ice cream money!

The First Dress I Made!

I started sewing, having never touched a sewing machine before, after binge watching several series of The Great British Sewing Bee during Covid lockdown. I made a couple of little things before moving on to try making clothes. The first dress I made was Tilly and the Buttons Skye Sun Dress. I can confirm that it’s easy enough for a complete beginner. The instructions are detailed and there is a little video on the website demonstrating how to apply bias binding. This is my first version. After this, I made a knee length version and I wore both so much last Summer. They are so cool and comfortable. I’ll be making more this year.

Summer Skye Sundress

Tilly has done it again, what a great pattern.  This is the perfect summer dress and such an easy sew. The instructions are very clear to follow with both a written and picture step by step guide . I made the maxi length out of 2.5 metres of fabric and it feels great to wear and easy to throw a jacket over the top or pop a tee-shirt underneath if like me you live in the UK where the weather is somewhat changeable. Such a simple but stunning dress

I was lucky enough to to be gifted both pattern from Tilly and the Buttons (with no obligation to post) and a new fabric online shop I discovered is 5 mins away from me (a new local sewing friend!) Sew Totally Me

I’ve also made a tutorial on making the bodice without using the bias binding. Bodice tutorial

Alternative way to gather the skirt and attach to the bodice here

To excited to share this beautiful dress. It’s a really quick but stunning make and as always Tilly’s instructions are spot on. A really versatile pattern to own. More pictures on IG here

I will be posting more Monday with details of week 2 for my co-challenge #SewRecreateTheLook

Summer staple - Skye Sundress

I just love the easy, breezy style of this dress. I was very lucky to be a one of the pattern testers for Skye and as soon as I received it, I knew it’d become one of my summer staples!

I used a very TATB inspired double gauze I had in my stash from the lovely Sew Me Sunshine and it works perfectly.

As always the instructions are simple and clear and it came together really quickly. I made the midi length version and opted for the shoulder ties, which are such a cute detail.

I am already planning a maxi version for my holidays to Cornwall this summer (if it ever arrives!)
