Buy the Men's Carmanah Sweater sewing pattern from Thread Theory. A casual activewear classic, this zippered sweater features great details that elevate it from practical to stylish. The large shoulder yoke on the front and back is the perfect canvas for a contrast texture or colour. Choose from a partial or full zipper and a collar or lined three piece hood for a wide range of mix-and-match styling possibilities. Add or leave off the roomy kangaroo pockets.

The instructions include high-end construction suggestions such as an attractive twill tape neckline seam finish and a lined hood. Details on how to successfully apply a zipper to stretchy knit fabric without ripples are also included.

Suggested fabrics:

Self fabric: Sweatshirt knits (such as hacci knits or French terry), sweatshirt/jogging fleece (smooth on the face, brushed on the reverse), micro fleece, polar fleece, and boiled wool or boiled wool blends. Minimum 10% stretch is recommended for comfortable range of arm movement. Knits with a large amount of stretch and ribbed knits can make this project a more challenging sew.

Colour block design idea: Use a contrast knit texture or colour for the yokes and hood or collar linings. Choose a knit that is similar in weight to the main fabric.

Optional ribbing: The cuffs and hem band can be sewn with the main material or a coordinating 1x1 ribbing. It may be necessary to choose a thinner ribbing to reduce bulk if the main material is quite thick. Cuffs are included in the fabric requirement chart. If opting for a contrast ribbing, purchase same amount of main fabric and 0.4 m (0.4 yd) of 24" (63.5 cm) or wider ribbing.

Fabric requirements:

Contrast sweater with collar: 115 cm (45") wide fabric (sizes XS-M only): Main fabric, 2.1 m (2.3 yd) / Contrast, 0.8 m (0.9 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: Main fabric, 1.8 m (2 yd) / Contrast, 0.8 m (0.9 yd).
