Buy the Atelier Shirt sewing pattern from The Maker's Atelier. An updated classic shirt with an extended yoke for a dropped shoulder effect. This shirt has three distinct variations: a classic straight back, a pleated back, and a gathered back with gathered sleeves. The straight and gathered shirts are longer than the pleated back shirt, so they can be worn tucked in.

Huge!

Maybe I should have looked closer at the pictures but this is so huge I'm abandoning after the toile as the fabric I bought would be wasted on this. I hate waste but am throwing the pattern away. It’s easier to find the right pattern than try and adjust I feel.

I'm normally a 12 so cut a 10 after reading the reviews saying it is generous. Looking at the amount of fabric I want to remove (about 8 inches) I think even size 4 would be too large. If you really do want a very oversized shirt this is maybe the right pattern but just be aware.

It's also metric and I promised myself I wouldn't try and work with 1cm seams again (some are even 0.5cm) and got my pattern choice here wrong again. Lessons learnt.

Disappointed

I have eyed this shirt pattern for a while. Finally downloaded and painstakingly glued together. Bought an expensive piece of fabric. Shouldn't known better and made a toile first.
The instructions are good and clear, no fault there. Unfortunately the shirt looks boxy and huge. No bust dart and no shaping. I'm pleased I didn't make the gathered back version, it would've been even bigger.
If you don't tuck your shirts in you might want to downsize or you'll look huge.

Lovely modern shape

I made a size 8 that corresponds with a bust of 34 inches. The finished garment bust measurement is 43 inches, so is an over sized shirt with a whopping 9 inches of ease. A more fitted shirt, for example the Liesl and Co Classic Shirt has 5 to 6 inches of ease.

There’s also no bust darts, which adds to the oversize feels. Something I need to get used to!

I used french seams throughout for longevity and because the fabric is slightly sheer.

It went together without a hitch, remembering the 1cm seam allowance.

Would I size down next time. Yes, I think I would depending on fabric choice, but just one size. And I would shorten the sleeve length by half an inch.

So no doubt there’s more of these shirts to come, watch this space 🙂

Party in the back

When I saw a photo of this pattern on Instagram I had to make one! I had the pattern ordered & printed so fast!

I had trouble finding the correct fabric in my stash because with all the pleats it is a little fabric hungry.

I assumed with all the details it would take forever but it actually came together rather quickly.

I love this shirt, the length is perfect & a major statement but I do find it pulls a little to the back.

Placket addict

I made a shirt when I first started sewing for my husband and the collar and cuffs were a mess so that put me off for a while, but this pattern has restored my confidence. The instructions are impeccably written, walking you through each step clearly in just enough detail to get you there. If each step has too much description that can put you off but this was just right. I messed up a little and didn't reverse my second placket, but honestly who gives a toss?

The pattern itself is a total bargain because you effectively get three patterns in one with the 3 different views. I made the pleated back version and I'm so pleased with the result I plan to make more in the other views. Mine is cut in a size 20 which came up super roomy but I like that. The sizes and notching on the pattern are really clearly marked which minimises mistakes. All in all another impeccably written, drafted and graded Maker's Atelier pattern.
