had another go

Harry in Nerida Hansen print. I wasn't going to make this pattern again but I wanted to showcase the print and Harry is caftan-ish without being too caftan-y. I have got used to the feel of it and got over the difficulties of before.

harry dress style arc

I have made this dress in a soft cotton lawn and it is lovely and i have had lots of compliment i.e. very flattering. I've had to lower where the elastic panels are situated because i have quite a low waist, this has turned out well. the fitting of the elastic panels are a little bit fiddly, i did the back one as the pattern said, but did the front one in my own way and the effect is still the same. I have seen this made up as a top in a linen fabric and i'm not so keen on the slight boxy appearance. so my advice would be to use a drapey fabric.

Surprisingly fiddly - not for me

I made this toile from a cheap ikea duvet, so not the loveliest fabric to handle. Nonetheless, I found the sleeve pleats, elastic gathering front, back and sleeves really fiddly and hard to make neat. I don't have a serger and there's a lot of overstitching to do in these fiddly bits, leaving raw serged edges eg on sleeve hem. I did some cheats - bias binding rather than facing, back cut on the fold, enlarged the round neck to pop over - as I was principally interested in how the elastic works on me. I sized down too, looking at finished garment measurements and what women said on the Style Arc fb page. It doesn't feel great to wear, and given the sewing faff I won't be using this pattern to make the dress I had planned. Oh well
