Ballet wrap top

I really wanted a ballet wrap top, partly because I thought it would look lovely with my fit and flare dresses but also because I thought it would be nice to wear to my adult ballet classes. I originally felt tempted by the Seamwork Elmira wrap but ultimately went for this pattern as it also offered two extra tops and leggings.

Man I had problems with this pattern. I ended up with a wearable wrap but there were issues.

I originally cut out size M, lengthened the ties by 1ft so they could comfortably tie a bow rather than a knot, lengthened the sleeves (I didn't like the original 3/4 length) and lengthened bodice by an inch, but split it between two areas (waist and hem.)

The resulting top was huge and looked awful. So I carefully unpicked all the pieces and recut the top as a size S.  Alterations this time included:

,keeping the shoulder width of the size M to accommodate my broad shoulders.
,adding length to the sleeves and body:  1/2" to the body and a few inches to the sleeves (although I definitely ended up chopping some of it off as I added too much to the sleeves.)
,lengthening the ties by 1ft (same as my first attempt.) I also angled the ties to a point for the last few inches as I felt they looked more attractive this way.
,took in the side seams by a further 1/4"
,moved the ties in by 3/4"

For reference my measurements are B35", W27", H37" and I'm almost 5ft 8"

I also totally disregarded the pattern instructions as they were unnecessarily complicated. Inserting jersey sleeves in the round using ease stitches?! NOPE.

Overall the wrap is still too low and doesn't actually wrap over much. The crossover needs to be higher so it crosses just under the bust. I either need to remove the extra 1/2" length I added to the body or just need to go down ANOTHER whole size as the whole thing looks and still feels too big. When I lift the shoulders everything appears to sit better. It's still perfectly wearable as it is and I did get some wear out of it last summer after I made it. I feel I slightly wasted this lovely, medium weight raspberry jersey though which I bought from Edinburgh Fabrics.

Juries out whether I'll attempt this pattern again or go for Seamwork's Elmira if I want another wrap top.
