Buy the Clara Dress sewing pattern from Silversaga Patterns. Inspired by Victorian chemise dresses but with a modern twist, Clara features dramatic 3/4 length puff sleeves with elastic cuffs. The sleeves are designed to be worn on the shoulders, but also look pretty off the shoulder. The bodice has two channels with elastic, at the underbust and waist. The A-line skirt has hidden side seam pockets. Clara is also reversible: one neckline is higher than the other, and you can wear the lower neckline in the front or back.

Perfect Floaty Dress

I kept seeing loads of Damson Madder dresses in a similar style to this on my instagram. I really wanted to recreate my own version and I knew this pattern would be the perfect base. It was really enjoyable to sew and the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It came together quickly and fit perfectly. I will be making more.

Romantic Swedish style

The images of the samples looked so glamorous on the product page, I couldn't resist buying this frothy, voluminous pattern. It duly became a frothy voluminous dress when I made it up in black linen, just like the samples, although I'm not sure all that froth really suits my size 18 frame.

Still, on the whole this was a win. It's essentially a very simple frock and comes together really easily.  I like the design's use of single bias tape to make channels for the elastic rather than sewing the elastic on as shirring, so there's always scope to tighten the elastic later if it starts to go slack. The pattern is pretty well written for each step although the company would be well advised to get a subeditor or copy editor to help them with the English translation as there were a few confusing phrasings in the instructions.

My tip for other users is to use a strong chalk to mark on the lines where you need to sew on the bias tape, or even baste a line. I kept having to redraw mine because the chalk got rubbed off. Also get a large orange cat to keep you company while you sew (see picture).

Flattering and comfortable

I have made two of these, one for myself (pictured) and one for my daughter.

It comes together really well and I love the square neckline and the pockets of course, I have to have pockets.

I did get the elastic twisted at one point so I marked each end so that I'd be sure when it came out which sides should overlap to be sewn.

Effortless Romance

Not sure why but can't upload a headline image for this...

This was my first pattern from Silversaga after seeing a bunch come in on my Instagram feed and it did not disappoint! The pattern is so flattering since you can customize the elastic lengths to fit your own body and the pattern itself is only four pieces, making it easy to sew up in an afternoon. I think this dress is really romantic and can be sewn in both fancy and casual fabrics.

Tip: if your fabric is 140cm or wider you can cut the sleeves on the fold and save 60 cm of fabric. For some reason the fabric requirements are only given for 130cm wide fabric.
