Buy the Chloe Coat sewing pattern from Sew Over It. The Chloe Coat is a beautifully classic coat with simple details and an exquisite finish. With a pretty rounded neck, lined patch pockets and optional detachable scarf, it’s easy to wear, versatile and looks great with any outfit.

Chloe fastens with an open-ended zip, or with press studs for a 60s vibe. It’s tailored at the shoulders and fully lined for a beautiful finish on the inside and a perfectly structured coat on the outside. Designed to be semi-loose fitting, the Chloe Coat is fitted to your shoulders, then shaped at the front with a long cut-away dart.

A true year-round staple, you can wear this pattern all the way through from spring to winter depending on your fabric choice - from viscose linen to jacquard to wool.

Chloe coat and online class

I enjoyed making this coat, although it took about nine months from purchasing the class and printing the pattern before I pieced the pages together (a full afternoon's work!), cut out and stitched it all.

The sewing was faster than I expected, and I used both the (brief) written and (more extensive) video instructions to guide me through. Even as an experienced stitcher with some coat making experience, the video tutorials were useful.

The only significant change I made was to create inseam pockets in the long front darts, which has worked well.

The class focuses on using a zip closure, so do check the steps carefully if you're choosing another option such as press fasteners. I also found the centre front hem slightly confusing (where it meets the front facing) but this was probably due to late night sewing rather than any failure in the instructions.

All in all I am happy with the outcome and feel more confident about approaching complex outerwear projects in the future.
