Buy the Child/Adult Moon Booties sewing pattern from Sew House Seven. The Moon Booties are the ultimate slippers - they're like puffy coats for your feet! These slip-on booties are non-foot specific and fit on either the left or right foot. The lining is slightly contoured to your foot thanks to the inner elastics at the ankle and foot bridge and the adjustable cord and toggle at the outer ankle. The foam sole insulates your feet against cold, wood, stone or ceramic floors and the insulated upper keeps your feet cosy and warm. The reinforced last and sole add to their durability.

Make a more technical pair for camping, ski trips or harsh weather settings using outdoor waterproof or water repellent fabrics. Or use your scraps to make a cosy natural fibre pair for home. Perfect for scrap busting!

Notions: 1/4" (6 mm) woven elastic; 2 toggles; 1/8" (3 mm) elastic shock cording // Optional notions: temporary peel and stick basting tape or something similar for holding the inner sole in place in lieu of pins; liquid puff paint to create non-slip soles; seam sealant for waterproof fabrics // Optional tools: fabric clips are best but straight pins work too; Teflon or walking foot for sewing bulky or coated fabrics, and/or a zipper or narrow foot for sewing bulky unlevel seams; hump-jumper for sewing next to bulky foam.

Cozy booties

This is a fun intermediate make.  I sew with a Bernina 830.  I definitely needed a hump jumper to get over the elastic cord.  My boots are wool, lined with double sided flannel.  I did scoop a bit out of the instep area, and shortened the last, which is made of denim.  I also used iron on fleece, which I applied to the outer.  The trickiest part of the pattern is sewing the two soles together.  I removed the amount of fleece that would have been sewn into the soul.  I stitched it down, because sometimes iron ons creep.  It is hidden behind the last.  This really helped with the bulk.  On the lining, the elastic is on the bias.  Flannel stretches, so I ran two rows of stay stitching under the elastic.

The appliqués are wool felt.  I also used iron on fleece to make the soles.  Next time I’ll full some wool to make the soles.  I recycled a bit of leather to make them non slip.  All of this fabric was leftover from other projects.  I love a sew that helps clean up scraps.  I would love to do these out of patchwork.  I see a matching smoking jacket and slippers in my future.
