Great dress - Jolene shirt & dress

Ready to Sew Jolene Shirt and Dress

A dress for all seasons

I love this dress! It is so versatile and comfortable - there’s more ease in the waist than you’d know from the silhouette, perfect for big lunches!

I found it straightforward to sew, though fitting was a little more of a challenge. I’m short waisted, so needed to take 5cm off the length of the bodice. There wasn’t much room to manoeuvre, and I worried that taking so much off the pattern would ruin it, and I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I needn’t have worried. I also graded the waist down a size (still loads of room!), took some length off the skirt (because I’m short, as well as short waisted), and added in-seam pockets (because they should be there). I added the skirt ruffle from the expansion pack.

The fabric is a lovely yarn dyed gingham from Sew Me Sunshine, making the vibe very primary-school-summer-uniform, which I love! I am looking forward to making a long sleeved version for autumn/winter.

So Many Options

I loved making this dress, the instructions are so good I didn’t even do any unpicking!  The main pattern comes with a couple of collar & sleeve options plus a shirt and the expansion pack offers even more meaning there are so many ways to go.  I made mine using needlecord with a slight stretch and had no problems creating the gathers although I wouldn’t recommend using a fabric much thicker.  Mostly I’ve great things to say about this pattern, with a couple of niggles the big one being that I made a size 46 (graded to 44 at bust) and this is the largest size.  If you fancy it, I have a full review on my YouTube channel

Lovely Jolene - Ready to Sew

This is a great pattern, easy to sew and lots of stylish features. The most difficult part is committing to all the buttons, but they are a unique design feature and well worth the time. The pattern also includes very helpful instructions (as do all ‘Ready to Sew’ patterns). I’ve made three versions so far (2 tops and 1 dress) and I’ll definitely make more in the future. Jolene - Ready to Sew

Very good pattern, easy to follow, what I like is that you can pick what you want to print, you dont have to print everything from the pattern. Blouse fits me perfectly!
