Puff and Pencil Slash Dress & Cap Sleeve

Buy the Slash Dress & Cap Sleeve sewing pattern bundle from Puff and Pencil. This bundle includes two separate patterns – the Slash Dress and the Cap Sleeve – which work in combination to make a cap sleeve dress.

The Slash Dress is a fitted dress designed to be worn over pants, with an asymmetric skirt that starts at the hip. It features a high neckline and darts at the bust and back. At the back, the dress closes with an invisible zipper that runs from the neckline to the hip. The dress can be made with or without sleeves.

The Cap Sleeve is a short sleeve that covers only the upper part of the armhole. It fits neatly on the shoulder and extends just slightly beyond it. The sleeve is finished with a simple folded hem.

Note: The Slash Dress in white has been made without the Cap Sleeve.

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces are divided across two A0 sheets. The sheets will need to be joined with no overlap.

Suggested fabrics: 

Slash Dress: This pattern is designed for woven fabrics. Choose a fabric that has a bit of structure. Fabrics such as taslan, linen, lightweight wool, lightweight denim, velvet, and cotton twill all work well.

Cap Sleeve: This pattern is designed for woven fabrics. Fabrics such as woven viscose, lightweight wool, lightweight denim, crepe, and satin all work well.

Fabric requirements: 

Slash Dress: 135 cm (53") wide fabric: 145 - 200 cm (1 3/4 - 2 1/4 yd) // 145 cm (57") wide fabric: 135 - 160 cm (1 1/2 - 1 3/4 yd).

Cap Sleeve: 135 cm (53") wide fabric: 20 cm (1/4 yd) // 145 cm (57") wide fabric: 20 cm (1/4 yd).

Sizing: XXS – XXL (approx. UK 6 – 22/24, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Slash Dress: 90 cm (1 yd) of interfacing; 60 cm (23 1/2") invisible zipper.
