Buy the Ray Pinafore sewing pattern from Paper Theory Patterns. The Ray Pinafore is a three-quarter length dress that finishes just below the calf. It fits close around the bust but falls loose and straight to the hem in a trapeze shape with no waist shaping. The back is low but is designed to cover most bra fastenings. The pinafore has low armholes so it can be worn over layers and slips over the head without any zips or openings. There are in-seam pockets in the side seams, and the hem has wide splits on the sides and a deep hem facing. There are three different strap options.

Sewing level: Intermediate

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing for sizes 18-34: One of the pattern pieces has been split (to fit on the A0 sheet) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabricsThis pattern was designed for woven, medium weight fabrics like cotton poplin and linen, but it would also make up well in light and heavy weight fabrics. A light fabric like a cotton lawn or voile would be well suited for a summery dress. Heavy fabrics like denim or cotton drill would also work well. Knit or stretch fabrics like jersey are not recommended.

Fabric requirementsThe calculations were made on a single layer of fabric. If you want to cut your fabric on the fold you will need to increase consumption by around 35 cm (0.4 yd) for all sizes. No allowance is included for shrinkage.

1.2 m (45") wide fabric: 2.16 - 3.18 m (2.36 - 3.48 yd). Note sizes 20-34 will need to be cut across the length of the fabric rather than across the width.

1.5 m (60") wide fabric: 1.73 - 2.46 m (1.89 - 2.69 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 34 (approx. UK 6 – 36, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern was drafted for the height of 170 cm (5'7"). See the fitting notes in the image gallery for information about cup sizes.

Notions: Interfacing // Option B: one pair of 32 mm (1 1/4") D-rings; one pair of 38 mm (1 1/2") bag sliders.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (38 pages for sizes 6-22, 45 pages for sizes 18-34); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets for sizes 6-22, 3 sheets for sizes 18-34); US copy shop pattern (2 sheets for sizes 6-22, 3 sheets for sizes 18-34) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: Yes.
