What we think: Rachel has made and worn this blouse a lot. It's a little fiddly when constructing, but the end result is really interesting.

Suggested fabrics: Choose a supple woven fabric, light to medium weight. As far as fibres are concerned, viscose, cotton, silk are appropriate. You can opt for crepe or poplin, as well as a flannel that is not too thick. Avoid fabrics that are too soft and weighty which could flatten the pleats instead of accentuating the design.

Fabric requirements: 140 cm (55") wide fabric: 220 - 260 cm (2.4 - 2.8 yd) // 110 cm (43") wide fabric: 280 - 320 cm (3 - 3.5 yd).

Sizing: EU 34 – 46 (approx. UK 6 – 16). Please check the size chart.

Notions: Matching thread; fusible interfacing, 70 cm (27.5") x 130 cm (51") wide; two 1 cm (0.4") buttons; little hook or snap fastener for the front opening.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; pattern files for A0, A4, and US letter size paper.

Helsinki Blouse

I really like wearing this blouse. I initially chose the pattern because I wanted to make a more formal blouse to wear with jeans or trousers and it has worked great for that. The style makes it easy to fit. There are a couple of tricky bits to sew though, including the collar around the neckline, which I sewed differently to the instructions. I first machine tacked the collar together along the raw edges and then sewed to the blouse neckline before finished all the seams. I then topstitched the collar to the seam allowance. The cuff opening was also a bit fiddly to get neat. The fabric is a lovely drapey rayon twill from Stoff and Stil. Next time I will probably not twist the fabric for the front bodice on the inside as you don’t see that detail from the outside and it adds extra bulk. I’ll definitely be making another one though.
