New Look Dresses 6508

I used a quilting cotton with a light pink checkered cotton lining for the top. The dress can be buttoned together or separated into a top and a skirt. I had several issues with the pattern and had to make several modifications.

1. The sizing has about 5cm difference between variations A, B and C, D so read the sizing chart very carefully! I accidentally cut the wrong size on the top because of this and had to use a 0.5cm seam allowance to account for this. The finished garment measurements are only printed inside next to the pattern pieces.

2. The neckline for the top came out way too high and I had to lower it twice which is a pain since the top is fully lined.

3. The waistband for the skirt is far too short for the corresponding size so cut at least 5 cm extra length.

4. The instructions are terrible and for my variation (D) it doesn't even tell you where to insert the zip. I'm not sure I had the pleats the right way but I like how it came out anyway.

I also reduced the number of buttons joining the top and bottom and extended the invisable zip through the waistband instead of using a hook and eye as instructed. I've made several dresses before but this way easily the most frustrating pattern I've used yet, maybe that's why I couldn't find any versions online.

On the plus side, the design is really cute with the buttons and the cut out on the back. It also has decent pockets which I filled with my phone and keys without distorting the shape of the skirt because of the pleats. Although I love this dress, I don't think I'll be using this pattern again anytime soon.
