Buy the Sturdy Tote sewing pattern from Merchant & Mills. A sturdy, lined tote bag with inner pockets and turned through handles. This bag is designed to be made in thick cloth so it holds its shape well. Using a medium weight lining will also aid in keeping the shape.

Suggested fabrics:

Self: Oilskin, dry oilskin, mid-heavy weight cotton canvas or drill, mid weight (8-14 oz.) denim.

Lining: Mid weight woven cottons such as barrier lining, half Panama, 8 oz. twill, mid-heavy calico.

Fabric requirements: 

Self (without nap): 80-90 cm (31 1/2″-35 1/2″) wide fabric: 1.1 m (1 1/4 yd) // 100-150 cm (39 1/2″-60″) wide fabric: 0.9 m (1 yd).

Self (with nap, adding seam at the base): 80-90 cm (31 1/2″-35 1/2″) wide fabric: 1.1 m (1 1/4 yd) // 100 cm (39 1/2″) wide fabric: 1.1 m (1 1/4 yd) // 120-150 cm (47 1/4″-60″) wide fabric: 0.6 m (3/4 yd).

Lining (without nap): 80-90 cm (31 1/2″-35 1/2″) wide fabric: 1.1 m (1 1/4 yd) // 100-150 cm (39 1/2″-60″) wide fabric: 0.9 m (1 yd).

Sizing: Finished measurements: Height (minus handles) 35 cm / 13 3/4″ x Width (taken flat) 47.5 cm / 18 3/4″.
