Buy the Mish Mash Cushion sewing pattern from Merchant & Mills. Instructions for making a simple cushion with contrast flaps. You can choose from a rectangular envelope cushion with flaps at each end or a square zipped cushion with four flaps, one on each side. This is a great pattern for playing with fabric combinations and using up offcuts. The best fabric combinations are the unexpected ones! 

Note: You can adapt these instructions to make a different size cushion. A cutting formula is provided.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight woven linen, cotton or hemp, such as Indian handlooms, block prints, yarn dyed and 185 linens. The designer recommends using a slightly lighter weight fabric for the flaps than for the body of the cushion.

Fabric requirements: 

Rectangular cushion: Self: 110-150 cm (43 1/2-60") wide fabric: 0.8 m (1 yd) // Contrast: 20 cm x 37 cm (8" x 14 3/4").

Square cushion: Self: 110-150 cm (43 1/2-60") wide fabric: 0.8 m (1 yd) // Contrast: 36 cm x 52 cm (14 1/2" x 20 1/2").

Sizing:

Rectangular cushion: Finished measurements (not including flaps): 60 cm x 35 cm (23 1/2" x 13 3/4").

Square cushion: Finished measurements (not including flaps): 50 cm x 50 cm (19 3/4" x 19 3/4").

Notions: 

Rectangular cushion: 60 cm x 35 cm (23 1/2" x 13 3/4") cushion pad.

Square cushion: One 40.5 cm (16") zip; 50 cm x 50 cm (19 3/4" x 19 3/4") cushion pad.
