Flattering and super easy pattern, Love it.

The Florence pattern is one of my favourite pattern to date, i made already 4 of them.

The instructions are very clear, the trickiest bit is to remember on which side you need to sew on buttons ;)

The fit is slightly loose, i made my size according to measurements and it is super comfy. The only alteration i have done to the pattern is lengthening the front and back bodice by 4cm.

I've made mine in EcoVero Urban Leo viscose from Good Fabric store.

I even made this pattern as well in jersey and it works great with few very minor tweaks mentioned in this blog

Definitely recommend this pattern, great for beginners too.

Floaty light! - Florence Top & Dress

I've seen a few lovely versions of the Florence top popping up on Instagram, so on a recent trip to Merchant and Mills I picked up a copy of the pattern. I also treated myself to 1.5m of beautiful gingham linen and the perfect matching buttons - it would have been rude not to!

This is a straightforward sew and would be suitable for all levels of sewist. Previous experience of sewing button holes and finishing a neckline with a bias facing would be helpful, but not essential as the instructions are clear, detailed and well illustrated.

I decided to size down and make the top in a size 6 based on the finished garment measurements as I was worried I would be uncomfortable with the generous ease on a style that's already more voluminous that I'm used to. I'm really happy with the finished proportions, but I think I would opt for the size 8 if I made the pattern again in a drapier fabric. The only alteration I made to the pattern was to hem the frill 3cm instead of 4.5cm to give a little more coverage.

I'm really pleased with the finished top - it's comfortable and fun to wear and the button back and frill details are super pretty! I very much enjoyed the construction and the finish is very clean, especially where the bias neckline meets the button stand - so neat! I'd like to make the dress version next and will be keeping my eye out for some suitable fabric.

floaty and feminine

This has become one of my favourite woven top patterns. I came across this whilst drooling over the merchant and mills linens, I hadn't seen it before.

The style is fun and comfortable. The shoulders are dropped and have a small dart in the back shoulder that helps the fit. The neck line and button band are my favourite part, it has a bias strip that is encased in the button band and is all sewn at the same time, the instructions for this are superb and its a really satisfying sew and finish.

The fit is great on me, I've cut a straight size 18 and the only modifications I've done is added 1.5 inches to the length of the peplum. As the shape of the top flares out I didn't need a FBA for my D cups and there was still plenty of room.

I really recommend this pattern I've made 3 top versions and dress.

BEWARE - the pattern says to reinforce the curved waist seam, do not avoid this step, it will keep the shape when you add the peplum and stop it stretching out.
