On trend for Summer but would have sewn in a different order than the instructions

I've had some cotton fabric for some time, always planned for a dress but took it while to decide on the pattern.

I made the version with flutter sleeves and cut mid way between the shirt and maxi length.

It is extremely low cut but after inserting the elastic round both sides of the bodice I slip stitched about 10cm.

My only gripe is the instructions have you constructing the entire dress and then finally adding the channels and elastic on the waist. By this point there is so much fabric in the skirt it is hard to sew the channels in. If I were to make another version with the longer sleeve I would complete as far as the waist, construct the skirt then put the two together.
